Malet Lambert School, Hull

As part of the refurbishment and extension to Malet Lambert language school in Hull a new all weather sports pitch has been installed by Thornton Contracts Ltd. The sports pitch design included a Permavoid SudsSport sub-base replacement layer which acts as an attenuation component within the site wide sustainable drainage system.

The sports pitch incorporates over 7000 sq.m of 85mm thick SudsSport providing in excess of 600 cum of attenuation for the scheme. The SudsSport units interlock to form a lightweight structural raft eliminating the need for traditional granular sub-bases and asphaltic leveling layers. The SudsSport raft is directly overlain with a wet-pour shockpad and Thornton Sports Soccer Turf 60M synthetic grass surfacing.

The shallow nature of the SudsSport installation enabled construction depths to be minimised, reducing cut/fill volumes and allowing potential construction problems caused by the high water table on site to be avoided.

SudsSport is a cost-effective combined sports surface and Sustainable Drainage System which is IATS, Sport England and ISO15330 compliant.
