When planning a new residential development in Oostvoorne the district council faced a number of design and construction challenges in terms of the drainage requirements for the site.
The development was to comprise a number of residential buildings situated around a main public square with vehicle access. The public square was situated 2 metres above ground level on top of an underground parking area and it needed to be designed to take car, emergency vehicle and occasional HGV traffic. The square was 2,500m² in area and incorporated gardens, planters and street furniture.
From a drainage design perspective there was limited storm water sewer capacity and there was no available water storage at ground level.
The Permavoid Podium deck system provided an ideal attenuation solution for the new development. Permavoid 150mm was used to construct a lightweight subbase and combined attenuation and drainage system. It allowed the concrete deck to be constructed completely flat and maximised the available height in the underground parking area by eliminating the need for ceiling pipework as water could be removed from the deck via 3 outfalls situated at the edge of the deck construction. The surface was hard landscaped using Aquaflow Permeable Concrete Block Paving.
