Sports Pitches

Why should a sports pitch be there just to play sports? Are we willing to sign off 10’s of thousands of square meters for that single purpose or can we expect our pitches to do more for us and for our cities? Of course!

One could argue that a pitch is a large rainwater catchment area. And with the Permavoid sub-base, the pitch can trap and store water without using pumps, extra space, separate tanks or energy. And this stored water can be used for a myriad of functions, from drinking water generation to flushing toilets and grass irrigation or synthetic turf cooling, conserving water, keeping water out of overloaded sewer systems during peak events and at the same time creating a valuable urban cooling effect.

The nature based concept (on site cyclic water management) behind the Permavoid multifunctional sports pitches is to interconnect functionality of the pitch, its sub-base and the urban environment, to cater not only athletes, but to supply valuable services for the building beneath, the surroundings it’s in and the city it is a part of. And the Permavoid system is perfectly capable of doing so, for both natural turf and systhetic turf pitches.
